The UK government is proposing to go beyond the terms of the Windsor Framework by requiring, from October 2024, that all products in scope of the ‘green lane’ product labelling should be labelled ‘Not for EU’ when sold on the GB market, even if there is no intention to send the product to Northern Ireland. This applies whether it is produced here or imported.
The Government will legislate to ensure that labelling requirements are applied across the UK. The public consultation on this GB labelling is now open and can be accessed through the Citizen Space website. On this site you will also find the draft legislation. The consultation will be open for six weeks and close on Friday 15 March.
Removing the ability to produce a single product for sale in UK and export markets will add significant to exporters. FDEA is working across industry to raise concerns with Government. We have summarised the definition of retail goods in scope of this legislation. Click here – Products in scope FDEA summary.docx to see if your products are in scope or not. We will be reaching out to seek input from those affected shortly.
